Yes you can do this, but always check the local codes some localities are very stringent. IMO, I wish more contractors would install chases or conduits for future use in attics for easy access or even crawl spaces for easy access a 1" minimum would be great in many cases. jagerbombme if the water pipe is copper keep them apart from touching. as dissimaliar metals against copper corrode.
