Subject - new meter
whiteyp I am looking to upgrade the 100amp service to a 200 amps service and run a new service entrance wire to a new meter box outside. I know that the breaker box requires a certain size wire. But does the meter box need to match? I am not sure if the meter boxes or the meters themselves are sized by amps as well.
jagerbombme yes, they are sized dependant on what type of meter socket your using, i know self supported meter sockets with breakers in them are sized differently i believe, but i know most the ones we use are same for 100 or 200, you'll just need to make sure it will take the 2" conduit and or drill it out and make sure the 3/0 fits
lctrc789 If you are installing a 200 amp service you need a 200 amp meter base as well with the minimum wire size at 2/0 copper wire for both the meter base and the panel.
I would reccommend you check the local codes in your area they may require a certain size wire for their local code.
