Subject - unitized switchgear
wandwinc A current project that I am working on requires three independent unitized switchgears. Each to be feed from the primary through a disconnect switch to a transformer feeding a panelboard. Even though it is not written in the specifications the engineer wants these to be factory-assembled units. My question is this, why can I not purchase a regular disconnect switch, transformer and panel board. Also buy a Factory made NEMA 3 enclosure and install all the goods myself. Any reason UL or NEC why this would not work.

Thanks

lctrc789 You say that the switchgear is fed from the primary, does the switchgear not come with all of this in the unit.
You are talking a very large disconnect with very special high voltage switches and it would not be very effecient if you did it this way.
More economical to let the factory install all this on the unit and have it all ready when shipped and it should be in specs.
