Subject - Temporary Power Poles
Mike Delaney Unfortunetely we set temp power poles for every house we do. Temp poles are a BIG pain in the butt! Is there a better way of GFCI protection....meaning, you have four guys using air compressors and saws, burning up the GFCI's, would it work better to install a GFCI breaker and a regular outlet? Does anyone know where to get those tri-pod stands the temp mounts to?
lctrc789 Mike, our residential guys have made tripods out of 1 5/8 strut from the commercial guys and they seem to work real well. Thye are heavy and they are a pain but we also have to use 6 x 6 in some laocalities, and we install the same 4 circuits GFCI and one circuit NON-GFCI and marked that way for welders, comprseeors and some equipment they us that does not do well with GFCI circuits,
At one time we had used GFCI breakers (give you a hint they came up missing out of the panels) LOL
For the cost of GFCI recpts. and we buy a lot here we can get them for like 4.98 each verses a breaker at 31.00 each.

Great suggestion. We took a screw driver and kind of marred up the front of the GFCIs as well for the same reason. Always buy brown also because they last longer for the same reason. They will steal anything that is worth money to them.

journeyman491us ...Here is a suggestion. (what I have done in the past).
...Do your temporary service with one BROWN 20A rated...and one 4 wire 50 amp 240 volt outlet. Then take a piece of 3/4 plywood 18" x "24 put a "two circuit can" with two twins and hit four GFI's below it. Feed the can with a 4 wire range cord. This is something the helper can make in the shop...and if you have any problems later on....unplug the old...plug in the new. When the house is framed, you can move the "rig" into the basement, or kitchen (if it is going to have an electric stove). I also like to get the bathroom GFI circuit going first, (less cords that I have to drag) Just a few ideas for ya
