Subject - Panel load balancing
David Hyatt When balancing a panel with motor loads do you take the name plate amperage or the amperage in Tbl 430.150 x volts = VA per phase? Or do you take the breaker size?
Example: 208 volt 3 phase 5 hp motor(name plate is 16.1amps)
Tbl 430.150= 16.7amps
16.7 x 208 x 1.732= 6,016va per phase?
RS377 Isn't a three phase motor about as balanced as you can get since its drawing the same amperage from each of the phases?
David Hyatt I AM SORRY SHOULD HAVE CLARIFIED QUESTION, NOT EVERY LOAD IS THREE PHASE.
Ryan_J I would use the nameplate, which is more accurate than the tables.
David Hyatt Thanks Ryan is my formula correct?
Ryan_J Yep, looks good to me :)
