Subject - Pushbutton light switches
jeffde In the last 48 hours my brother in law has been experencing an unusual problem. In his home he has 3 light switches that are of the pushbutton style. In the last 48 hours they have started turning on by them selves for no reason at all. They seem to be operating normally if they turn on by themselves you just shut it off and the switch will still operate as normal exept for the fact that they seem to have a mind of their own and will turn on at will.
Does anyone have any idea what would be causing this?
JimmyDee MEP,is the cause.
Actually, I'm going to guess that there is a problem with the springs in the switches and should be replaced.

JimmyDee Forgot about the old touch plate system. Yes that could be the problem if that is what is installed. Those systems seemed like a good idea when the first came out but were a maintenance nightmare. My recommendation is, to check out the TP panel for mice, or whatever if that is what kind of system it has.

Thanks for your response.
why would all 3 switches start acting this way at the same time. Do you think the springs would all go bad at once.
MSD This sounds like an old house using a touchplate system. If so, the switches will be low voltage and control remote relays located elseware. My guess would be a bad class 2 transformer or damaged wire going to the specific relays in question.
