Subject - jouneyman test
mrbigcash I'M new don't know what to get to prepare for the test, i see a book for this in a book for that. I need a book that goes over calculations in questions on the test i see mike holts & tom henry books i'm not trying to spend alot of money on books or tapes thank you all ?
lctrc789 MRbigcash, Have they given you any books or study papers on the test you want to take? I prefer Tom Henry books as they prepare you well for many tests that you take thruought the country. Theory, application and code are a big part of many journeyman tests.
I am sure that any of the folks in here can help you but a good book readying you for the test that you want to take is the best, for you a mock type test book that will help you understand what you are going to be taking. Usually they require a minimum time for feild knowledge before you can take test maybe that will help you learn more and ready yourself for the test. But studying and understanding is the best part of preparing yourself for the test. Good luck and hope this has helped in some way.

Ryan_J I like Mike Holt's products myself, although I have never used any of Tom Henry's products.

jman1881 Mrbigcash, It seems that experior no longer gives tests in Philadelphia. I found the number for Philly's L & I dpt. Check out Mike
Holts web site for some online practice code tests. Those tests and his books helped me pass my Master Electrician's exam for DE. Http://www.mikeholt.com

Hope this helps

Bob B Can anyone tell me how can I find the requirements to pass the journeyman electrician test in the state of Alabama?
electroman Here's a start. Try to learn how to read and understand the National Electrical Code. In Minnesota, the State Board of Electricity is changing its' exam because of all of the classes that are out there to teach someone to pass a test instead of being a competant wireman capable of solving a problem or at the very least noticing a potential issue before it becomes a problem. Sorry for the rant, but as an inspector, I work with many licensed individuals who have passed an exam but do not understand basic code requirements. Passing a test after reviewing a "cheat sheet" is something any college student would be able to do whether they had bent a piece of pipe or ran an inch of romex.
Ryan_J I think thats a great point, electroman. When I teach seminars, I give some ideas about strategic highlighting, but only while I am teaching the rule and concept of the particular code section.
Bob B Thanks for the quick reply. I appreciate your advice on knowing the material as opposed to just studying for the test. The State of Alabama website allows the NEC, the American Electrician's Handbook and Ugly's Electrical references to be used in portions of the test. I'm sure these will give me the knowledge I need to pass the test. Thanks Again for your help, Bob B.
indianapaul If yoy go to www.neccode.com, under(free stuff) on the left there are free timed and graded practice test.
