Subject - Foot through the ceiling
SteveMc I know it had to happen sometime. I stepped through a customers ceiling today. My question is, how do you guys handle this type situation. Offer to pay to have the damage repaired, repair it yourself, or just say oops and let the customer worry about it?
I offered to pay for the repairs, I may lose money on the job, but better than losing a customer. Anyone else had an oops lately?
cs409 well BIG FOOT, welcome to the club LOL..........nothing to worry about. lets not mention insurance...we want go there......

now how do i fix when i do this?? if its a minor, not fancy, say a ceiling that really needs repaired/painted before i foooooted it!,,i will usually patch it myself,,,if it is a major job,,,i have a friend who will jump on it and doesnt burn me! just really depends on the people your doing the job for! some will not pay u until they get it fixed etc.....so, not much help on this but it may help........main thing is to get the hole patched/closed up soon....

keep us up to date on this.....

oh, last one i messed up, the people helped me patch it,,,,,and they paid for the material!
SteveMc Thanks for the reply, Casey. It's good to see that I'm not the only BIG FOOT electrician in the world. Speaking of big feet, I thought everything was bigger in Texas.
cs409 hmmmmm,,,,it is LOL
justinelect This has happened to me before and I know how you feel. Had a helper one time that stepped through two ceilings in one week. OUCH! I agree with Casey on how to handle this situation. This is one of the reasons I give for the prices I charge for going in an attic. They ask why so much to go in the attic and I ask them if I accidentally step through the ceiling are you going to pay to have it repaired? I usually get a "No" and tell them most times, if I were to step through their ceiling I'd lost money on that particular job.
cs409 heres something else before u do an attic job ....if the house is old,,,,heck, even new,,,,look at the route you will take/area in attic you will be....look at the ceilings in the house in those areas,,,,,push up on them,,,,,if u suspect loose dry wall,,,,etc etc....bring this to the home owners attention.....tell them,,,just by stepping on the rafters etc, could make the ceiling fall!! so dont get ripped into a ceiling job when u didnt do the damage! take care....oh,,,hows the patch job coming LOL
SteveMc I talked with a painter friend and he agreed to do the repairs. Now the only problem is getting in the business to do the work. The place is only available late at night and Sundays. My painter doesn't do Sundays, I wish now I hadn't. I'll keep you posted.
SteveMc Got a call from the owner yesterday, only gonna cost me $100 to get it fixed. Not as bad as I thought it would be. I might make some money on this job after all.
cs409 u got lucky steve! best to u
