Subject - wireing preexisting homes
veganfan I have question on remodeling work. The guys at work that do electrical work on side all pull the romex threw the wall to the device. Now with out removing dry wall wire can not be fastened to the wall. Which would be in violation of NEC? So how about you guys do you also do this or make customer pay expense of redry walling? If the is another option I do not know it, and would love to learn it. I am an industrial electrician so do not come across this problem in my work, and this is one of the reasons I have not done side jobs in residential. I am learning NEC, but until I am sure what I do is legal and correct. I will not do any. If you can please help me understand the correct and/or the legal way to run wire in a preexisting home.
Electricman Check out 334.30 (B) (1)NEC
quote:
(B) Unsupported Cables. Nonmetallic-sheathed cable shall be permitted to be unsupported where the cable:
(1) Is fished between access points, where concealed in finished buildings or finished panels for prefabricated buildings and supporting is impracticable
veganfan Thanks this makes me feel a lot better. Knowing that is not breaking code.
Electricman Thanks Jimmy
