Learned this the hard way when the steering gear on the USNS Regulus had a little "flooding problem".
Wrap a bootlace around the motor shaft so that when it's pulled you are providing the srating torque in the direction of motor rotation.
Energize the starting circuit, and make like a lawnmower...if the motor chugs away, you need a new start cap.

| I would like to welcome you the the Electrical Knowledge Forum. Thank you for your contribution. This also is a good way to get a cap motor started if needed for an emergency. A bad starter switch will also act like a bad cap also. Jim
