I got a fax from a customer today that a fire marshall gave him before he could occupy a building. Two things I am not sure about: 1) grouping of disconnects? I have not seen the building yet but what could this mean? 2) Wiring above ceiling (return air) comply 300-22C? If it is romex it can't be above suspended ceiling anyway. If it is in conduit with no junctions it is ok, right? How can I tell if it is actually being used as a return air space anyway?

| The first part of your question we talked about last night in the code session. I think the only time the disconnects have to be grouped is when they are service disconnects. I have little experience on the second question. Have to study that one. Jim

| If you cannot tell about the return air ceiling from the blueprint HVAC pages, look above the ceiling. If there are grills in the ceiling allowing air to pass, it is return air. If the supply and return are both ducted, it isn't.

| It has top be metallic or meet the flame spread and smoke developed index ratings of chapter 6 in the mechanical code. PVC will not work, nor will smurf.
