I have a question about adding a panel outside from an existing meter. I see this a lot, meter feeding through a wall to an old panel or fuse box. Someone wants to add a 6 circuit panel outside for a pool or utility building. Instead of re-feeding the old panel inside they just double tap on the load side of meter and add an 60 amp panel. Is this code legal? I do see it a lot but not sure if it was inspected. Mainly if a pool company installs a in ground pool and needs space for pump and such. This is the easiest way to do things but is it OK to do. If not have could you do it without having to re-feed existing panel?

| This will give you multiple locations for main disconnects and I'm sure it is not permissible. You could add an external panel by sub feeding it from the main panel and that should be as easy to do or easier. You would also have the problem, in the meter, of having 2 wires under one terminal designed for 1. Jim

| like david, i see a lot of this and if i can talk them into it, it gets setup with its own sub panel coming from the main panel,,,,,,no way to double up the wire on the meter without a problem.....

| Normally, the inside panel dosent have enough space to add on to. The best way I can see is installing a meter main combo panel with feed through lugs. I didn't think there was much likelyhood the above would be code legal. I have however seen meter lugs with smaller extra lugs beside them on the load side?
