Subject - Lutron Dimmable Ballasts
SteveMc We are having problems with some dimmable ballasts and am wondering if anyone here has experienced the same problem. We have approximately 100 of these installed in our ballroom. They are 277v 3-lamp T-8. The problem that we are having is these things start to strobe when they are turned off and back on. When they first start they will sometimes stop after a while, but eventually they will keep strobing as long as they are left on. We have replaced most of these and even sent the bad ones to Lutron for testing, but they said they could find no common problem. I find it hard to believe that we are the only ones having a problem and that out of 50-75 ballasts they can't find a common problem. Any one have any ideas. This is just curiosity on my part. I hate not knowing the cause of a problem.
cs409 Lutrons testing will be done under idea working conditions,,,rare they can dupicate the actual working conditions the item in question come from!!! so more often than not in a case like yours all test out ok... bulbs? what type? if you have tried different ones, do you get the same results? all voltage is ok am assuming?
SteveMc Voltage is normal, have tried different lamps, lamps burned in for the recommended time (100 hrs.), no wild temperature swings or extreme temperatures. Basically, just a standard installation. No problems with non-dimming ballasts in other parts of the building. No problems, yet, with the replacement ballasts. Could have just been a bad batch, I suppose.
cs409 lets hope the replacement ballasts did the trick, no one wants a problem with florescent lights!! and, just a side note, some ballast work best/better with certain brand lights and some work with any brand! sooo, my 2 cents worth.....keep us informed....tomorrow if i get a chance, i will call a friend that works with a lot of Florecent lighting under a lot of different conditions and run this past him.....
