cs409 Got a call last night from a friend....Hes an electrician at a local refinery. 30 yrs experience electrician. went thru the IBEW app. program etc etc etc....

he and his wife are building a new home,,,,cash,,,,no note period....

he gets all his plans, etc etc etc....goes down to start the process, and low and behold, was told he couldnt pull the electrical permit...was told as of jan 1, 2004 that the new state law required him to get a Masters Lincensed electrician (due to it being new construction!!) to pull and do the work...he was told point blank, no permit, no work unless pull and work done by lincesed electrican!!! if this is the case, this is just an injustice.

i was told, and read that the home owners in texas would be allowed to continue pulling their own permits, doing their own work, as long as it was their home(no rent property) that they would live in....now in Port Arthur Texas, the inspection / permits people told him,,,,no way,,, waiting on help....thanks
JimmyDee I think if he is the owner of the property and the house, he has the right to do the work himself. If, however, he will not take possession of the property until he closes and moves in, that might be a different story. If I were him, I'd have the contractor use his electrical contractor and then register as an apprentice and then do the work under the contractors supervision. Might cost his a couple of hundred but it should work.
