Subject - split phase motor wiring

i am replacing a pool cover motor - it is a dayton split phase reversible gear motor, 110V. no capacitor. there are 5 wires plus ground - white, blue, red, orange, black.
my controller input was 110VAC single phase (live, neutral, ground) but i believe it is fried since it is supplying power to the motor even when the keyswitch is off.
can someone please advise how i can manually connect the motor to the AC supply to get it to work (since my pool cover is stuck half-open and it 100 degrees here in LA). based on what i've read, i should be able to use a couple of DPDT switches, but i can't figure out how to wire this up, based on the diagrams i've found. they all show two coils, a permanent and a startup coil, with the latter having an internal interrupter that disconnects when the moter spins up. but i don't understand what to do with the neutral wire. the permanent coils seems to be black/red, and the starter coil blue/orange.

| Get the model number off the motor name plate. Have you checked for water in the controller or at least visually inspected the controller with the power and cover off?

| model is dayton 9k1280.
not sure if the controller is working, so i'm not using it.
i just want to directly connect AC to the motor with a couple of toggle switches, but don't know which wire is which. i can see that there is a governer device which based on my research should be used to disconnect the power from that coil when the motor spins up. however i'm not sure how it is wired. when i wire it up the way i think it should go, it starts correctly and reverses when i reverse the polarity on one of the windings, but after a few second smoke starts to come out (and i cut the power!). so i assume that i've just got it wired wrong.
any idea where to get a wiring diagram for this motor to answer this question?
thx

| i think the model # above is an OEM model. just found another label that says dayton # 5K939C.
