| what is a park model....what has a pig tail? and what is 4wire? am thinking a park model is either a camper or RV of some sort!, and this pig tail is coming from said camper or RV! and this pig tail is 4 wire! am also thinking this 50amp is 120V single phase!,,,,question also,,,,how long is this pig tail? 10 20 30 feet?

| I'm lost as to what a Park Model is too.

| this is a Mobile home /park model the pig tail is 20 foot 4 wire need to know what wire to use

| if it is 240v #6,,,,,,,,this will keep your voltage drop below 3% for that distance...
|
|
Tazmaniaman
| thanks for the info , i am guessing it is 240v but everthing in the trailer is 120 volt a/c water heater, gas stove ?????? it has a panel and 50 amp breaker

| How many blades does the cord connector from the mobile home have?
|
|

| If it was up to me I would run.
2 - 6 AWG Hots
1 - 6 AWG Neutral
1 - 8 AWG ground, size increased as where the ungrounded conductors.
I would run a 1 1/4" PVC for this.
All of that is my opinion, not code minimums.
You want to go cheep, code minimum 8/3 UF cable, no raceway.
If you do it this way and you have a cable failure you will have to dig again.
Also if it was me I would through in a 3/4" raceway or two in case you want cable or phone later.

| i agree, #8/3 uf would work, and is what i would probably use if it was going to be light use on this trailer,,,, but you will go over the 3% even figuring at 80% load...depending on where he lives,,,if in the south when high heat/hum. or at peak during late jun, thu sep...and if this trailer will get lots of AC/ in and out use during this time.....i think i would go with the #6 which stays below the 3% volt lost even at 100% potential load....iwire makes some other good points,,,,run the extra 3/4 conduit for future cable/phone/intercom etcccc......
do your self a favor,,,,do as iwire wrote above,,,,use 1 1/4 conduit,,no. 6 3 times, no. 8 one(for ground)...and run yourself one or 2 other conduits in the 3/4 range.....good luck

| There are no NEC requirements in regards to voltage drop.
It is just good design to take it in to consideration.
UL listed equipment is designed to work with a 10% voltage drop.
This does not mean it will work as well or last as long as it would with the full voltage.

| ok i will use #6 awg wire 4 wires into a 1 1/4 inch pvc and 1-2 3/4 inch for phone etc. should i use the pig tail to a box with plug in or direct wire to a junction box and then to the house with a 50 amp breaker

| I just want to tell you that your local codes and requirements may be different. So get some one to look at what you are doing before you have to redo everything. As for the connection I would think you should put a receptacle in a weather proof box made specifically for the receptacle you intend to use. Be Safe at least have someone like an electrician or inspector in your area look at your work. We can only really help with theory national codes and stuff like that, because we can't see what you are doing.

If you use THWN or THW wire, they will fit in a 1". Jim

| i did do work on few mobilehome hook ups and there is the other option that i did do few time and it did the trick. lay down 2 inch pvc conduct. the reason because there are quite few brand new mobile home do have 200 amp panel box in there but majorty do have 100 amps but as what Iwire [bob] and few other say for 50 amp service it is ok for some area but not all so as we will remind that check the local codes as needed because it will be slightly diffrent than nec codes will say it.
merci, marc

| Scott that is a good point that local codes can prevail.
As far as the outlet I would hope he is using a standard 50 amp RV outlet, take a look at Figure 551.46(C) in the 2002 code and they show the outlet configuration.
Jimmy D Yeah it will fit in 1" but will you want to pull it in 140' of run with some bends?

| THWN with a little Yellow 77 and I would see no problem. Jim

| for the extra cost of 1 1/4 over 1,,,,,why bother with 1 inch? why is it that some go for the smallest allowed? just cant understand it..
|
|
JimmyDee
| Probably has to do with my nationality more than with anything else. Jim

| got it 1 1/4 pvc #6 x3 #8 x1 1- 50 amp rv outlet then just wire to outside panel box direct???
|
|
cs409
| i would use the 50 amp RV outlet, just like you would plug into when your on the road with this trailer....this way u can plug and and unplug as u need.. just go to local supply house or home depot etc and tell them you need a box with that outlet,,,and make sure its weather proof....good luck. go to this site and check out the rv box...this will give you some idea as to what u need.... http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-power-cords/rv-hookup-50-amp.htm
