Subject - 100 amp Sub Panel
poland I'm installing a 100a Sub Panel approximately 75' away. I was going to feed it with a 100a double Pole Breaker, if I can find one. Do I have to separate the Neutral and Ground bus from each other in the Sub Panel. I would like to tie the sub feed in to the main but don't feel like adding a disconnect. Any suggestions or other Ideals.
JimmyDee Yes you have to separate the neutral and the ground bus from each other because it is a sub panel. The panel should have a main breaker to feed into and that will give you compliance with the NEC.

frenchelectrician make sure it is a 4 wire conductor type and the size of that wire for 100 amp subfeed i useally run # 3 thhn-thwn type wires for hot[s] and netural conductor and grounding conductor useally #6 either bare or green thwn wire type. this size is plenty hevey up to 80 amp load but to run true 100 amp load then you will have to bump up to #1 wires size but grounding will stay the same.

poland The panel that should have a main can that be off the main load center or does the sub have to have the main. I also was woundering if you was talking about the sub panel only as far as seperating the nutral and the ground.

Both have to be installed. The one in the feed to protect the 100 amp wire and the one in the sub panel as a disconnect.

Only in the sub panel do they need to be seperated.

Ryan_J I don't generally post on DIY threads, but the maion is only required at the second structure if you have more than 6 breakers.

Also, don't forget to create a grounding electrode system (ground rod or other) at the second building.
