my wife bought a used kiln that requires 220. in my breaker box there is no more room for another breaker, so the girl(salesman) at lowes said i could use a 20/50 duplex breaker if i had (20) amp breakers next to each other to replace the (2) 20 amp breakers and add a new 50 amp breaker. so i took out the (2) 20 amp (after turning off the power) and replaced them with the new duplex. now i have 2 black wires going to (1) 20 amp breaker , 2 black wires going to the other 20 amp breaker and 1 black wire (new 8/2) going to 1 of the 50 amp switches . the other 50 amp switch isn't being used. the white wire to all are going a commom vertical bar in the back of the box. Does this sound right? It seems to work but i don't understand why i'm not using both 50 amp switches.

| Is the 50 amp breaker a tandem breaker? Does it have two sets of screws? It sounds to me like you have the kiln hooked up to 120 volts. I have an uncertain picture in my mind. The 8/2 where are the wires for this cable hooked up? As simple as this may seem you really need to have an electrician look at this. For your sake, don't try to save money this way. This will take an electrician a very short time to fix.

| I agree with Scott, I can't even picture what you are telling me, but for safety sake call an electrician. He should be able to fix your problem quickly.

| i can see why where it go wrong here but i really advise to get the electrican there to get the kiln hook up properaly because right now you are running 120 volts to the kiln instead of 240 volt and the other reason i say to get the electrican because the kiln wireing is very tricky too. so please get a electrican there asap before soemthing will damged on the way .
