| Hello Richard and welcome to the forum. I have also held my journeyman's license for eight years. I have worked in the electrical trades since graduating high school. This has been almost 20 years ago. Most of my experience has been industrial working in large petrochemical plants where I worked equally as an instrument Technician. I spent about seven years in major commercial construction. This just about ruined my back, so I try not to do it anymore. I worked in residential for a year and hated it. Ever since leaving the commercial scene no one seems to care If I have my license or not. At every plant I've worked, having an electrical license is not even a requirement. Strange huh? Now I go from gas plant to gas plant fixing the crisis of the day.

| Hi Richard. Had a license since 1967 after serving a IBEW apprenticeship.(Still an member there) Worked as a union electrician for about 23 years and then work went to puke. Took a job as a maintenance supervisor for 4 years. Hated that job so I went to school at night and got an associates degree in electronics. That got me my next job at a paper mill. Got a ton of training there in PLCs, motors, power houses and a bunch of other neat stuff. Taught at a community college, industrial electricity and PLCs for 7-8 years and then decided to get some more education. Got an Masters in management from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids and that took me to my next job. Was an electrical and instrumentation supervisor for a local chemical company. Good job and worked with good people but the old construction "red butt" happened and it was time to move on. I'm now teaching electrical at a Voc Ed High School. Going to retire this June and probably teach Bible part time at a Christian school next fall. Its something I've always wanted to do. So here I go into something else. Life is good. Jim
