hello everyone, I am looking for information on wiring two ceiling fan boxes together. I took down a wall which had the switch in it now I want to tie both fans into one switch and was told to run one off the other, I also have old wiring in the house built 1950.. thanks tess

| If I understand correctly one switch was removed but you still have one. You want to run both fans off that one switch. If this is correct, take a 12/2 romex between boxes. Hook up the wires connected to the first fan to the romex to the second fan, white to white, black to black, green or bare to green. Wire nut off the wires feeding the second fan and hook the new romex to fan wires. Make sure you turn power off to both fans from breaker or fuse box. Hope this helps let us know.

| Make sure you are using the proper size conductors for your circuit you dont want to add 12/2 to a 14/2circuit. Also powering 2 fans off of one switch could be trouble if you dont have the proper switch. Look at the amp ratings on the switch most speed controls that you can purchase at home centers can only handle 1 paddle fan safetly.

| Electricman, I agree if he is using a speed control one fan is all most will handle. But why not put 12/2 on a 14/2 circuit? I can see not putting 14/2 on a 12/2 circuit?
