Subject - METER PROBLEMS
bryan O.k try to follow me with this question.we have a 200 meter,200amp disconnect,200 amp transfer switch, 200 amp panel and a 25kw generator. In order to make this generator work this is what we have to do. First power has to be disconnected on the load side of the meter which is feeding power to the house on a normal operation, these wires are pushed to the side for know,we will be back to them later. Second new wires are ran from load side of meter through 200 disconnect, through 200 transfer switch, and here comes the problem, then it has to be ran back to the meter where we have to use burney lugs to make taps in the meter. I will promise you one thing ,it takes all you can do to get the meter cover back on without shorting something out. Any suggestions on ways I could get by these problems in my meter can.
JimmyDee If I'm following you correctly, you are headed in the wrong direction. I know of no reason to return back to the meter for any reason.

David Hyatt Why can't you refeed the old house panel from the transfer switch and do away with the old feeder?

I would say this is the only way it could be done to meet NEC and the power company's specs.

bryan Thanks fellows for the fast reply,I am trying to think of the problems i would have if i had to cut the feeder wire that is in the panel now push it out of the way inside the wall to make room for the new 4 wire 4/0 that will have to be fished up through the wall, because you cannot get your hands on the old feeder wire,if so i could pull it down and make taps under the floor or pull it out of the wall so it would not be in the way of the new wire.thanks fellows because i am back to pushing the meter cover shut.ha ha ha, because the homeowner could not afford the generator if i had to go through all that trouble.JUST PLAYING FELLOWS,THANKS FOR THE REPLYS
Scott Vickrey Bryan make the the service meter feed the line side of the transfer switch by way of the disconnect and the generator feed the alternate line side of the transfer switch. Pull the old panel feed out of the meter and run it into a new junction box beside the meter and extend it to the load side of the transfer switch. Won't this work?
bryan yes i have thought of that before and the problem with that is if you look in the meter can they are only about 6 inches of wire which will not give me enough wire to reach out of the meter to the junction box.line side of meter alway's has exter wire but not the load side
Scott Vickrey I meant pull it out of the meter completely. Like it never went to the meter.
