Subject - 12v actualted 110v solenoid/relay
GreenMitsuE1 Here is the deal, I have installed a sinewave inverter in a motorhome. On one of the powered outlets is the converter. I am sure most of you know that the inverter converts dc to ac, and a converter converts ac to dc. So, if the converter is on at the same time the inverter is on, they just try to feed each other and the batteries will go dead sooner than they should. We kicked around the idea of installing a simple wall switch, but the costomer wants it done so that when he turns the inverter on, power to the converter is cut. The control panel for the inverter is powered by 12v. So, if I can find a normally closed 110v relay that is triggered by the 12v signal from the panel, life will be good. Anyone know where I can find such a beast?

Now for part 2

I also need to switch a 110v tv on with a 12v signal. So basically what I need is the opposite of the above. A normally open 110v relay! How about that!

Sorry for the lenthy explination, but I figured I would just get the "what the heck do you want one of those for?" question out of the way! Thanks everyone!
JimmyDee Yes, you can purchase relays that have 12 volt coils in them with both normally open and closed contacts in them. If any amperage is involved, they are likely to be pricey. Lower amperage, "ice cube" relays have both kinds of contacts in them but I think they are limited to 10 amps at 120 volts.
I'm trying to figure out just exactly what you are doing.
