Subject - Purchasing Foreign Electrical Goods
dazzza Hello,

Just wondering if I could get a bit of advice. I am looking to buy a few DVD players from Hong Kong for myself and a couple of friends however I'm not too sure about the voltage and running them in the UK.

I know that it's possible to buy standard electrical adapters normally used when travelling however I have herd that it's not always advisable as often things can go wrong and damage the item Ideally I would like to convert the players over permanently but don't know where to start or if possible.

Ideally I would like to do it myself as I suspect that taking it to an electrician is going to offset the savings we would make.

Many Thanks in advance.
Scott Vickrey It looks to me that Hong Kong uses the same three prong 220 outlet as you do in the UK. From what I see Same voltage and same cycles.
If the devices are made for use in Hong Kong then they should work for you without modification.
cartoon You should be okay with equipment from Hong kong. It's the same as the UK (or it was when I was there 20 years ago) It is now under the PRC's rule, but I can't envisage anything having changed.
electricalpro Most europeon equipment is not specified like it is here in the states, you have to consider voltage and cycle of the equipment. Most european is 50 HZ. In the states operate on 60 HZ.
