Subject - MTW Wire in Electrical Conduit
Robspxudi I was told by and electrical inspector in the Toronto area that I cannot use MTW type wire in Electrical conduit over 10'. The wire is 16 guage and marked MTW Type CSA Type TEW or Type AWM-I. We work both in the US and Canada and have not run into this before. Is there an NEC code that backs up this ruling.

Thanks
JimmyDee #16 MTW is normally used for controls and I think we would be hard pressed to find anything that limits exceeding 10' in the NEC. Canada's code ??? But why? Its top line wire.
Jim
blackrd Machine tool wire. for industrial control installs and machine shop, manufacturing equip, etc. I cant imagine why it would be limited to 10'. Some inspectors are more knowledgable and better trained than others. He has the final say though, and you must respect that. I never understood why people would argue with an inspector, it cant make yur next job with him go any easier.

You know that's right!
JimmyDee They aren't God!!!!!

kbsparky Most type THHN wire is dual-rated as type THWN and MTW. If you can install THHN wire in conduit, and it is the same exact thing as MTW, why can't you install MTW in the same conduit

Doug Wells Is this carrying the same voltage as all the other current carrying conductors ?
JimmyDee As long as they are all rated for 600 volts, what difference would it make?
Jim
Robspxudi Jimmy D is correct. All rated for 600 volts.
