Subject - Hvac rant
Electricman The other day we were finishing up on a residence when the hvac guy told me he was ready to test his furnace/ac systems. So I obliged him by energizing his circuits and when the outdoor compressor kicked in the circuit breaker started a buzzin. So this guy starts tellin me how I wired his equiptment all wrong and it couldnt have been him. So we go and have a look see to whats goin on nameplate says 31.4 for minimum circuit so I had installed 8awg, max circuit 40 amp so I fuse at 40 amp hmmmmm nothing wrong there, next I stick an amp probe on and say lets try again , guess what? when the compressor tries to start we are now pulling 152 amps per leg. About this time I say to this guy you best check out your install (capacitor wire off maybe?) so he slinks out to the unit and sure enough he accidently knocked the cap wire off, Hmmmmmmmmmm.......... think I would get an apology YA know sometimes being an electrician is a thankless job but hey who else is gonna do it ? plumbers maybe?
Romex Racer Pretty nice rant ya got there.
Electricman Thanks, I work around this fella quite often so all is forgiven
