hello there.
im currently on a city+guilds electrical installation course (c+g 2330 parts 1/2), almost halfway through a two-year course...
i was going to make the jump to full-time under a four-day a week 'day release' scheme (if i could find one)
however, it looks like i may be promoted at work with a lot of benefits, so im tempted to stay another year and a half
after my current course i need to do part three (one year) and a couple of small modules in testing etc plus my nvq
my question is thus: how do you go about finding part time apprenticeship 'mate' work? i would be looking to do three weekends a month. whats the best way to go about this? do sparks generally work sundays? and would i be selling myself short by offering to work for free, for exxperience?
advice? appreciated. thanks

Just wondered if any sparks here had direct experience of working with apprentices? are they seen as a 'hassle' (even if they elect to work for free) would it be a hindrance to be able to volunteer time on the weekend? (if, as my initial question, you work on the w/e)
Sorry if i sound a bit of a newbie, I have a good, well-paid office job at the moment, 9-5 mon-fri, and, rather than 'jump-ship' now, i would rather cut my teeth part-time in sparkying rather than make a full time jump at the moment
thanks for the advice

| I've worked with many apprentices through out the years and never found them to be a hassle unless they knew more than me. As I look back, I loved to teach and it doesn't get any better than the one to one you do with an apprentice. If I were in business, I would jump on a kid that wanted in so bad, they would work for free. Depending on work load, attitude etc., he would probably find him-self (or her-self) working for me at the end of a very short period of time. Jim
