Subject - ceiling fan height
macmikeman Ever been told that ceiling fans are required by code to be 7' ft min from floor height to the blades?. It is not actually in the code, however there is a requirement to follow manufactur's instructions which in the case of ceiling fans will require 7' min.
Electricman Never been told that its code, but the code does state that equiptment must be installed according to the manufacturers instructions so..........
stedder I have been told that the blades must be 7' aff, maybe it was building or safety codes. Or maybe just the way the inspector felt that day (may very well have been the building inspector) imo, fans lower than 7' do seem a bit menacing.
lucky1122 Its not actually in the code verbatim. However ,if you read Art 90.7 you will find that the manufacturing process has a system in place to determine the suitability of a product for any given application. This system is recognized by the code utilizing manufacturer testing labs, inspection agencies, and product evaluation organizations using nationally recognized standards. Authorities having jurisdiction will use these in determining the acceptability of an installation or a proceedure. Also labeling or listing practices which determine compliance with appropriate standards will also be used to judge an installations compliance.
macmikeman Well I am only 5'-7" tall so everything is really far up there.
Bruce K Inspectors in Durham NC have failed houses for the light kits being below 7' while the fanblades are well above the 7' requirement.
