I need to carry power to the end of my dock. The .75 HP boatlift can be configured to be 115V@10.8amps, or 230V@5.4 amps. Will lift a 3000lb boat about 10'. It is 1000' from the house. What size wire will work? Where can get cheap over the internet? Any other things required to get enough power out there. I don't know anything about electricity.

| You have to know your local electrical codes and ordinances. Because the rules vary from place to place. However assuming the area you live in has adopted the National Electrical Code and have no applicable ordinances. Then and only then would the following be true. Because of the long distance involved you are going to have to upsize the wire conciderably to stay within the voltage drop limit. Using the 230V at 5.4Amp would be the way to go. Number 6 AWG copper is the smallest wire that will legally fit the bill. This size prevents the voltage drop from being too great(<3%). I know you don't like the sound of that. Now some other conciderations. How are you going to get it out there? Underground, overhead? Like to dig ditches The code specifies a minimum of 18" for PVC Conduit unless your using a concrete cap. Overhead won't be fun either. I recommend having an electrician do your dirty work. Let them take the responsibility and do the work. I know this is not the answer you were hoping to recieve but, It's the facts. If you have more questions. I will be happy to answer them.
