Subject - How do you rate life?
kbsparky I was at the doctor's office this week, undergoing a full physical exam. One of the questions Doc asked me was how did I rate my life on a scale of one to ten. One = fully depressed, ready to throw in the towel, etc. Ten = life is great, never been better, etc.

After a moment of thoughtful reflection I gave him my response. I thought it was interesting that his examination of my physical well-being included such a question that probes into my mental perception of things. I suppose that someone who was really depressed or dis-satisfied with life could develop physical problems that can affect their health and well-being. On the flip side, those who are satisfied with their life might be more inclined to stay healthy, since they have more at stake in keeping their body that way?

FWIW, my response was

zol_man kb,
was you answer high because your business is doing well? would your answer have been different if business was terrible?

the reason that i ask, is i am trying to decide leaving the big company structure to start a service co, or stay and put up with the daily status quo.
thanks,
carl
Electricman Being a Christian has given me a different perspective on life. I know that Jesus has given me the power to overcome sin and the general calamitys that are common in the world. I am not saying that I dont have bad days or that I dont fall on my face every now and then, but I do know that God has a plan for my life and that His plan is sometimes different than mine. Life in general for me is good, I have a wonderful wife and family ,a good paying job that is very rewarding, and most of all a loving God who sent His one and only Son to die for my sins and redeem me( a fallen sinner) unto Himself, so that I could have life and have it abundantly.
Wirenutz just as you are what you eat, you are what you think kbsparky

the doc was simply trying his best at an overall assessment, being that mental health is probably the greatest of our overloooked maladies

Romex Racer If you answered 6 or less, you would have got Prozac...

Maybe you can retake the test????

Alfred Many a person has has been depressed. Life is what you make it. I know I have felt this way for many reasons. I approach each with a positive attitude. I sometimes fail to realize that there alot a people that are less fortunate than I. By the grace of god, a loving wife and two grown young men (children), I power on. Chin-up !!!
Thanks Alfred Johnson
anne I think its about time that doctors are finally starting to see that mental health can affect physical health to a big extent. When people say that they are "sick with worry", they usually aren't kidding - worry can makes you sick emotionally, which can lead to physical problems, like ulcers, etc. Here's a couple of good motivational quotes "The choices you make, can change the story of your life!" and "We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust our sails...." Martha Washington said it insightfully when she wrote, "The greater part of our happiness or misery depends on our disposition and not on our circumstances." Alfred's right....life's what you make it.
