Hello,
I toss this out for some input. I have one more year to go for my degrees in building electrical systems and business. I am thinking about what direction to go in the future. I can go into design and work my way towards a PE. However, I would like to start my own electrical contracting company at some point in the future. In order to get licensed, I would have to become a master electrician or employ one. Obviosuly, to obtain that license, I would need to do field work. The problem that comes up is the issue of pay with student loans if I was to join an apprencticeship.
I have heard people doing the reverse about working in the industry and then coming back to school. However, I chose the school path first because I felt it would be easier to continue rather then come back later to get a degree.
Any one perhaps know of or experienced anything similar? Or have any input?
Thanks,
Rob

| I know of some engineers who have become business owners, aquired a masters liscense and never picked up a tool. It is possible to do this but difficult. Understanding the code and it's practical application cannot be obtained for a book. Using it daily and applying it in the field is a neccesity. Anyone can get a masters license in Tennessee , if you pass the test. First make a decision which you want to go an stick to it. Thanks Alfred Johnson
