Subject - regency ceiling fansensomatic switch

I have a home with three ceiling fans.[All 3 are remote controlled ]The only way to operate the lights is with the remote control They have a single pole wall switch. Enter the push button sensomatic switch.1 fan is wired to the switch using 14/2 wire and the switch is at the end of the run.How do you wire that in series? that is the way the manufacturer recommends.THe other room is using a 14/3wire and is not at the end of the run We wired black to black /red to black wires out of switch are black [both]couldnt get this to work[ 3]last bedroom 14/3 wire connected black to black--black to red and the dam things works as promised what am i missing in the other 2 locations?
