Stupidly, I decided on my own to replace the element in my GE electric oven with out shutting the power (I didn't know I needed to). I took out the screws and went to remove the element and SPARK! The digital clock went out. I checked the breaker and it did not flip. I called my husband who is now freaking out on me and told me not to touch anything until he gets home. Now I am worried I will have to buy a new oven. Please tell me what you think.

| You may have indeed totaled your oven. Hopefully there are some in-line fuses somewhere. A repair man could fix for about $75.00.

| Well, first of all I'm glad you are still with us and your husband is not a widower and your kids are not motherless. There are 3 rules to doing repairs. 1) Turn off the power and check it to make sure it is off. 2) Turn off the power and check it to make sure it is off. 3) Turn off the power and check it to make sure it is off. After following these rules of safety, you will probably find a fuse somewhere in the oven that you blew. Jim

| Look for a schematic on the back access panel.

| You may or may not have "toasted" your oven... as the previous replys are accurate.. the biggest is that you were not hurt... ovens can be replaced or repaired... you can not... glad you are ok...

| Now that the oven's broken, he has to take you out to dinner. Somewhere nice. You risked your life in your brave effort to fix the oven, it's the least he can do.
