Subject - quick wiring question
steve123 think small home appliance here...

i have two lights that operate independantly from each other with the same wiring

red light and blue light
they are controlled on by a momentary pushbutton switch.
i need to make them alternate steadly with short flashes.

however i need this mode of operation to be used with a toggle switch...ie toggle off position the lights operate normal with their normal momentary push button, then toggle on position will make them alternate back and fourth.

im pretty limited to supplies i can buy at radioshack of course i could buy parts online if needed.

any ideas on how to do this or where to go for information?
John A. Peters We need more information, what appliance, for what purpose, what does blue mean etc. Electricians do not work on appliances generally. Is this more of an electronics design thing?
PEI This is actually a hobbyist question, and these guys really only want construction, commercial and residential electricians to post, but...

Try Omron H3CAA or is it HC3AA timers, you are looking for duty cycle timers, but this device is pricy at about $150. Neat thing about this timer, it is multi-functional as the type of timer can be changed and the timing is digitally, accurately set from buttons on the front. It is about 2" square on it face and about 4" deep, can be panel mounted or surface mounted determined by the type base you buy.
skynrd What you need is a single pole double throw toggle sw. micro switch is the most common manu. Hot lead to common mo,entary PB connected to one pole and a cycle timer connected to the other. Then you would parallel a constant hot to the common terminal of the timer contacts and one light to the NO contact & the other to the NC contact of the timer. I would go to NEWARk.com you can find a cheaper model of cycle timer there but I would try and by it elsewhere I found Newark has a large inventory but there kind of pricey.
