	Subject - Outdoor Electrical Wiring in CA smritt We are in Pleasanton, CA and are going to build an outdoor kitchen. Does the 120 volt electrical wiring from the house to the kitchen have to be buried underground or can it be above ground in conduit. If it has to be buried, how deep? I suppose that only in California would such a thing be considered If you are using conduit, as long as it is properly fastened, I see no reason why it needs to be buried, unless remaining exposed would be a hazard. But if you do bury it, then minimum cover requirements may be required. Like 18" for PVC conduit, for example. You might want to consult with your local inspector before starting such a project, in any case.
