Hydromassage machines are they requiered to be Gfci protected from the manufacturer or from the electrical line by electrician

| I would think at least one of those methods. However, since the occupant does not actually come in contact with the water, who is to say that GFI protection is required at all? Maybe this is an issue for UL
The Code does not specifically address hydromassage machines

| I think the discussion here is about hydromassage machines -- the type found in shopping malls and airports. One lies inside a chamber, and then is massaged by high pressure water jets, which are kept isolated from the user by a thin rubber or plastic membrane. In other words, the user does not get wet . You keep your clothes on with this one
Since there is no physical contact with the actual water itself, does this type of machine still need GFI protection

Hmmm .... not sure how that would happen, but if that membrane ruptures (teehee) I suppose that someone might get wet
Maybe if someone were to slide in there with a sharp something-or-other sticking out of their pocket, they may get more than they bargained for !!

| My concern is not getting wet ,it is getting electrecuted.

| I have seen these machines before and they seem to be safe and you are right the person does not come in contact with the water. I would venture to say that if these machines were a threat or needed a GFCI then they would have came with them with a UL listing. I would say that until some one does receive a shock ( or worse) then they will stay the way they are, the thought that the person could become wet is very unlikely.
