I have the 2002 NEC are there really enough changes to the 2005 NEC that would make me think about purchasing the newer revised version?

| Lots of changes, even moving and renaming of sections. IF you are working in the trade, you really should have a current code book on hand. And, don't ever throw away the old ones. You may need them for reference, even years from now.

| There are some important changes. But you might find you'd be just as happy getting one of those Code Changes books instead. They cost less and explain all the major changes.
I got the one called Analysis of Changes, 2005 NEC. It's published by a partnership between NFPA and IAEI. It's pretty good! There's lots of good color diagrams, color photographs and clear explanations. (It might not be the cheapest. I don't know. It came with a seminar I took.)
