Subject - Electrical Lic.
dcampp Can anyone tell me what is required in michigan to get a electrical license. Do you have to work for a electrical contractor for so many hours or can you just take the electrical exam and if you pass the test get a electrical license.i have 17 years working on low voltage( fire alarms, security alarms,etc...)equipment.

Thanks for any help.
kbsparky I'd start by visiting their website.

This link might help.
JimmyDee You have to work under a master electrician for 4 calender years and have about 7500 hours that are certified as electrical work. You also need to have a number of training hours and the number escapes me at this time but I think it is somewhere around 500 hrs.
This allows you to take the exam which is a 2 hr, timed, open code book (theirs). If I remember correctly you get 1 1/2 min for each question so you need to know how to use your code book.

LK One of our guys came to us with security, fire background, he went thru the 4 years in school and put in his 8,000 hours, last year he took the state test, passed, he gave us notice he was going on his own, last month i get a call, he said he is back in the fire work, it pays more, and he has more time to spend with family.
Jorren Jimmy, The credit you are thinking of is 2,000 credit for a bachelors degree in Electrical engineering, or 1,000 credit for an approved training-apprenticeship recognized by the state.Dcampp, I see you're not to far from me (I'm in Dearborn) I know of an excellent code prep course but not sure if it would be against forum rules to post it. (JimmyDee??)Dcampp, p.m. me I'll give the info..

I think it might be OK as long as no pricing is added. I've already got my update for this 3 year period.

Jorren There was confusion over at work when we needed our update so we all got ours several months ago. Now I just hope I don't lose the certificate so I can mail it in this winter.
Well, go ahead and post a reply to this, JimmyDee, so you can get your post count to 1,000!! Congrats to that and thanks for helping keep up a great and informative site!!
