skynrd I think you’re talking about a Wound Rotor motor.

I never tried it but if you have the stator windings tied to the rotor windings it probably would get real hot. You could try shorting the rotor winding wires together and see if that will work otherwise external resistor banks are used for controlling the voltage on the secondary windings. Article 430.23 in the NEC covers the proper sizing of the wiring of the secondary. The link below explains them pretty darn good.
