I am bidding a service feed to a new x-ray machine.According to the nec the disconnect means shall be operable from a location readily accessible from the x-ray control.(517.72 (B)). The room layout shows the x-ray control outside the room proper. My question is do I locate the disconnect in a general use area(hallway) or is the control circuit going to satisfy the emergency shut down of the equipment?
Is the purpose for this rule to protect the operator or to protect the technician repairing the device? the answer to this question would change the location of the disconnect.
The x-ray operation control is a low voltage switch that controls the equipment contactor so in effect the operator "controls" it from a remote location. My question is if the disconnects purpose in this rule for emergency shutdown or repair safety. If for emergency it should be at the operator position. If for equipment repair at the equipment. The disconnect by the way is 100 a non fused lockable.
