Subject - Wire type for outlets
avisas I am wiring new 110V outlets in my basement.
The circuit breaker is 20A. I need to connect about 10 outlets on that circuit using 12-2 wire. Is that the correct type?

Thank you

Avi
JimmyDee For regular, 120 volt outlets protected by a 20 amp breaker, yes you would use 2 conductor #12 with ground romex.

avisas Thanks Jim!

Should I be concerned if some of the exisiting outlets use 14-2 wires?
Do I need to replace the wires with 12-2 type?

14-2 wire needs to be protected with a 15 amp breaker. If you are using an existing circuit and it has 14-2 wire in the circuit, feed it with a 15 amp breaker or make sure all the wire in that circuit is 12-2.
