WE had a material dryer moved at work last night, and its new location had no 480v 30A 3phase around. So they wanted me to run a 150 ft extension cord to a 20A 480 3phase outlet and use it. I objected to the long run and the 20A to 30A change. So then they decided to ask me to hook it into 60A 480v 3phase outlet nearby, and of course I refused that. The boss over production got very upset, and said most of time maintenance men around here can fix everything with duct tape make it happen. This upset me even worse so I told him move the dryer some where else. When I went to tell my boss (who for tonight happen to be head of maintenance) what had went down. He responded with good job that is right we will not make an extension cord for 480V that is illegal. I love it our supervision is so well trained.
Just though you might find this humorous.

| Many places it is common practice to cobble the job. Its your butt if something goes wrong. As a maint supervisor in a different life, I was ordered to purchase a box fan ($9.95) and build a card board booth to spray contact glue (not water based) for assembly of lament to a display case. Refused and asked for a release of liability statement in writing from boss. It worked and they used an existing paint booth for the job. Be sure you have another job in your back pocket if you really need the money for payments, etc. Jim

| That is a good one. I know the violations there I worked in paint room for five years. Good advice too that is why I did not do as they asked. I also document all violations on computer based work order system and on paper.
