I'm trying to rewire my block home. Having trouble fishing wires from attic to old outlet boxes-seems to be getting caught up in the blocks. Any tips or tricks that might assist me will be greatly appreciated.

| Are you trying to fish it or using one of old wires to pull new ones in? I have found the second one easier at times.

| I would like to welcome you to the Electrical Knowledge site. I hope your questions will be answered in an understandable way. I agree with Veganfan that using the old wires sometimes is the easiest way to go but I do have one old journeyman trick that may help. I found that attaching about one foot of fixture chain on the end of a good strong string will sometime make it down and around spots that a tape or any other method can't. The weight and flexibility of the chain will fall over obstructions and you can instantly feel when it gets hung up. When it does I just bounce it up and down a few times and most of the time it works. Unfortunately for all of us, not always. Jim

| What I have done in the past (and present) is to use some 3/8 nuts or fishing weight on the string. I use this method to fish MC or Greenfield down block walls on the job.

| Thanks for all your great tips. I've found a small space between the blocks and plaster that I've been able to fish my wire through. I punched a fist-sized hole above the boxes and pulled my wire from the attic. Again, thank you all very much.
