Not here to start rumors and I havent bought an 05 code book yet,but I have been told that the spacing requierments have changed in 210.52(C)1. I have been told that it will now be necessary to have receptacles closer together.
recpt-----24"-----recpt new? recpt-------------24"-------------recpt old
Please tell me this is not true

| Even though not required, I've been doing every 2' on the kitchen with 4 circuits min for years and the customers love it. Did my daughters new house 4 years ago and she and the tile back splash installer both complained about too many recepts. She has a church, small group meeting at her house once a month and have a potluck dinner at that time. She is asked, who did your electrical? Do you know we can all plug in our crock pots, coffee pots and what ever else they bring and you have never tripped a breaker. I tell them the secrete is 60 amp breakers. NOT. I feel this is one place not to skimp. You will make the back splash installer upset but, oh well. Jim

Not really, and whats great is the comments a couple of months after the people move into house. Its like, I thought it was overkill on the kitchen plugs but boy do I love them. People come over for a pot luck and everyone plugs in their crock pots and we don't trip any breakers. Comments like that are worth the extra $5 worth of material for the plugs and $35 for the wire and breakers. You have to realize I'm not dealing and never have dealt with a contractor that is chopping the cost of his house down with my price. It would be a different story then. Jim

| The kitchen is not the place to be skimpy on recpts. or circuits, I always supersede the code when it comes to the kitchen. I of course put microwaves, dishwashers, disposals, and even fridges on seperate circuits, have for years. Then if you look at countertops and how much room you have up there and think of what many people have today, coffeemakers, toasters, and all the appliances that use 1200 and 1500 watts it doesn't take much to see that you are out of room ,not enough recpts. and out of circuits. The code being a bare minumum has its disadvantages in many cases. Jimmy has a good point like with his daughters kitchen, with todays modern appliances it doesn't take much to fill a counter top.

| looks like 210.52(C) just ran out of verbage and had to resort to pictures for the definitional jist in the '05
and i'll agree with code minimums/overwiring kitchens, especially in the McMansions i do with commercial appliances given fledgling culinary pursuits are in vouge now
so here's my Q....
why can't i wire a refer (which have grown accordingly to this fad) via an individual 20 A circuit?

| You can. The exception says 15 amps OR GREATER.
