The neutral in a single phase 120 volt circuit supplying florescent lighting in a conduit with a phase wire supplying receptacles, is this a current carrying conductor as defined in 310.15(B4-A-C)? Let me clarify the question: 2 circuits one neutral one ground each circuit has lights and receptacles. Is this current carrying conductor?

| Yes because even if it is a balanced circuit, it will carry current if a unit quits working on either side of the line. Jim

| Well I understand it could carry current but the section says 3 phase not single phase so in my opinion it would not have to be counted as far as meeting code. At least thats the way I read it.?

| Gee, I'm wrong once again. Never too old to learn something. Jim

if the system is 3 phase, and you install 2 phase conductors sharing a common neutral, the neutral in this case is a current carrying conductor regardless of the load(s).
