Subject - SCALE PAY JOBS
shocky MY BOSS TELLS ME THAT ONLY 1 PERSON CAN RECEIVE SCALED PAY ON 1 JOB.DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE,OR AM I JUST GETTING RIPPED OFF.
JimmyDee Its been a long time since I dealt with the federal prevailing rate situation. May have changed a little but probably not much. Depends on if you have a journeyman classification. If not he can pay you an acceptable apprentice rate. But this is still to scale. I think he is ripping you.
Jim
KSsparky Everyone on a government job must earn "scale" wage. Like Jimmy says, though, it depends on what scale your boss can manage to classify you as. In theory, if you put down your pouch and jump on the skid steer, you are now an equipment operator, and subject to a different scale. On a side note, I was on a job once where the scale for painters was higher than the scale for electricians. What the heck is up with that !?!?!
Scott Vickrey Sounds like BS to me. I don't know what special conditions are in effect on your job but, on all jobs I have worked where they paid scale it was mandatory that everyone get scale. If you are an apprentice then your scale was lower than a journeyman.
I never saw the painters scale but, I was a little peeved that the framers got more than the electricians. I guess the deserved it for having to be a framer.
RS377 In California, in order to pay someone under the "prevailing wage", they must be in an approved apprenticeship program. Other than that, everyone makes at least the prevailing wage.
lctrc789 Shocky, I would call the Federal, Hour and Wage division in your state, ask them what the guidleins are for you. That one person thing sounds like a lot of crap to me. Again depends on what your status is Apprentice, journeyman etc. But I would get some more info on this you could be getting less then you deserve.
I hope you check in to this and let us know how you came out on this situation.
ravengotu in california all must recieve wage or contractor can lose right to be on prevailing job....all meaning on the jobsite..hope it helps get the cash $$$$$$$$
nfsus the place i used to work for wouldnt let you know if it was a prevailing wage job. then youd find out from someone else, and you still wouldnt get the rest of the pay.

sounds as if your boss is ripping you off. If this is a prevailing wage project he MUST pay according to the guide lines set forth in the specs for the project. The general contractor is also required to post the wage rate sheet for all on the site to view. I have been working on prevailing wage jobs for the last 10 years and we are required to submit certified payroll sheets to the state as part of the contract. If you think you are not getting the proper pay - first MAKE sure it is a prevailing wage project and what your rate should be, Second - discuss this with your boss , Third - if all else fails ... REPORT IT.
Here in Maryland the electricians are 2nd or 3rd highest paid. elevator mechanics #1 then Plumbers / Electricians only a few cents apart .
