Subject - Surge Protectors
Chad036 Does anyone know alot about the whole house surge protectors? If so can you give me as much information about them as possible??
lctrc789 Chad, there are a couple of different kinds of surge protectors on the market. One brand is the kind that looks similar to a breaker and installs right in the breaker box, it takes the surge through it rather then through the bus so they say. Depending on what type of breaker box you have to see if you can find a brand that is compatible with it.
Less expensive than the other type, which can install right out at the meter base, more expensive type,
I would ask why you would want one for what type of surge or spikes are you getting. Electrical spikes are common as well as some surges in some parts of the country here, but generally they are taken care of by utility companies but again generally lol
If you are trying to protect one or two sensitive items in the house a good surge protector would do as well at less expense.
Hope this has helped some and give you an idea for what you are looking for.
Chad036 thanks for the input, I had a customer ask me about them and I told him that I didnt know too much about them except for that I know they are not a solution to a direct lightning strike, but would help with common surges.
Ryan_J If you get one make sure it is listed with the UL 1449 second edition guideline. Well worth the extra money you will pay.
