Hi,
I'm new here, I'm trying to get into becoming an apprentice electrician. I currently an Electronics Technician for 4 years. I would like to see if there is something better out there for me so I've deicded to try my hand at becoming an Apprentice.
I'm not sure what area is better to get into, industrial, residental, commercial. Actually at this point I'm not sure it really matters. All I want to do is get hired some where so I can get started.
Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for me so that I can maybe get an employer to take a guy with no experience? I've been searching for jobs online, in the papers, the employment office, talking to people, and calling up a few guys.
Also, do you people have any tips for me once I do get hired? What should I be expecting on the job, etc...
Thanks, and this seems like a great group of people!
I hope I didn't violate any rules on the board by askign for some advice...and if i did i am sorry

| Those sound good. I would also try contacting electrical contractors directly (for non-union), and the local union hall for when they take applications. We have a Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee that places apprentices for our local. www.ibew.org might help you find the closest local.

Good advice and I would like to welcome you to the Electrical Knowledge Repository site. One thing about the IBEW, of which I'm a member of, is that they usually don't take apprentices but once or twice a year. You may have to wait to get into their apprenticeship class. I would go to the local union office and ask what classes you could take to better your chances of getting an apprenticeship and take them. You say you are an electronics tech. That will help you a lot. Jim
