Subject - tape or no tape
veganfan A lot of my coworkers put electrical tape on the outside of recepticales when they install them. Some say its just extra safety others say incase you need to pull it out live. One even tried to concince me the inspectors like it better that way. Others though say it just makes a sticky mess and is a waste of tape.

Just thought I would get all your inputs tape or no tape?
justinelect Usually the only time I tape the recepticle is if I have to install it hot and the box has other wires, and/or solid wire connected to the recepticle making it harder to push into a metal box. Never have had an inspector mention anything about taping recepticles.

cs409 I learned that trick from my daddy wayyyyyyyyyyyyy back in 1959ish,,,,, with no ground, u could get bit if u touched a metal box and if all else connected when installing/removing etc! sooo...rappp the recep with a bit of electrical tape to cover the screw connectors,,,when u install it, if it touches the metal box etc etc....u dont get bit! sorta like a pre GFCI system LOL.....heck, on a lot of metal boxes in res. areas, i still catch myself doing it....
SteveMc Since I'm probably going to be the one pulling it back out if there's a problem, you had better believe I tape my receptacles and switches too. All of our lighting is 277v, it makes a hell of an arc if the switch contacts the side of the box as you pull it out.
