Subject - Journeyman's Responsibilities
justinelect This is strictly an opinion question. What do you think the responsibilities or requirements should be for a Journeyman? During the course of normal operations what skills should a Journeyman have? Not looking for the requirements such as passing an exam or documenting "X" number of hours just the main functions that a Journeyman should be able to perform on the job.

JimmyDee I think he is required to understand the NEC (or know how to find the answer) to the point that his/her installations are installed properly, safe and efficiently and to meet all local and state requirements. This should be able to be done without supervision. I think this is absolute minimum.

cs409 I think, a good Journeyman should be able to go on any job, handle any problems that he/she encounters. Be able to take a set of prints, figure/do/resolve any problem on a job site...You also have to understand, sometimes solving/resolving a problem can mean, sitting down/going over the problem/s with other journeymen/master electricians also....being able to work with the other crafts to insure a smooth work transittions etc...he/she should also, know when he/she is installing/repairing/etc something, and it isnt up to pare for the application! aka, system undersized etc....
