Subject - weather proof boxes for luminaires for log homes
techsol I recently came upon a problem with mounting carriage lights to the outside of a newly built log home. The "electrician"(and I use the term loosely)before me used standard pvc receptacle boxes and water ruined not only the fixtures but the gfci receps as well. My question is: Has anyone encountered a box designed for exterior mounting for a log home? I ran across one years ago in a trade paper but cannot remember the manufacturer. Too many ads over too many years I guess. Thanks in advance.

The difficult we do imediately, the impossible costs a little more!
JimmyDee Never worked on a log house but have seen where the electrician installed the outside plugs in WP Bell boxes. I know that is a brand name but don't know what else to call them. He cut them in to make the box surface flush with the front of the logs.

techsol Thanks Jim. will look into them. Any port in a storm.
JimmyDee They were actually the WP surface mounted type of boxes and they had been cut in the way I described.

schof2 Just finished huge log cabin. All outdoor boxes were cut out at factory to accept metal old work box to fit flush with face of logs
JimmyDee Schof2, I would like to welcome you to the Electrical Knowledge forum. I hope your experience here is as good as mine has been and we welcome your comments and ideas. I can see where this would work great on square cut logs but how about the natural round cut logs.
